As the Shortlist draws nigh, don't forget to check out the Man Booker site www.themanbookerprize.com
and you can read the Longlist author insights.
Also, anyone betting on what's going to make it?
My bets are Mantel and Joyce, but they're the easy ones... Quite fancy the Levy as well.....
Any improvements?? Go on, let us know what you think....
On Shortlist day ( next Tuesday, in case you've forgotten!--surely not??) two of our group, Ellen and Nicole, are heading off to the Shortlist party in London, so really hope they have a great time, and we look forward to hearing all about it next Thursday at Southam !! Nothing like a bit of literati glitterati!!
Tell us about it on the Blog as well, you two...
I like the look of Frayn, Joyce and Brink at first glance, but don't know any of the authors - it's all new to me!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of the long list, as usual. But I am intrigued by the one about the chap who walks across country to visit his former work colleague, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, by Rachel Joyce. It reminds a lot of the movie, The Straight Story, about an elderly man who rides across the United States to be reconciled to his estranged brother who is dying of cancer. If you haven't seen it, it's a great flick. I do believe I saw it posted in its entirety on YouTube...
ReplyDeleteForgot to say...he rides across country on a lawn tractor, because they have taken his driving licence away from him due to poor eyesight, etc.
DeleteEllen and Nicole--we want photos for the blog, please!!!!
ReplyDeleteHaving just reached the half way mark by reading Swimming Home, Bring up the Bodies and The Garden of Evening Mists, I have to say that I am enjoying the experience so far. The books are all very different, but challenging in their own way. I am hoping that the rest of the books will go as well, although I am very aprehensive about the Will Self one.
