  1. I really enjoyed this book. I found the list of characters at the beginning very useful. And readable!!

  2. Beautifully written, thoroughly researched and . . . average. Perhaps it's because the subject matter is not my preferred type of read. There's no doubting HM is a masterful novelist, but I found Wolf Hall's 600+ pages could have been 400, and this one could have lost 50. Thomas Cromwell, the narrator, was well crafted and the story interesting enough to hold my attention; with its scheming, intrigue and duplicitousness. I liked the portrayal of Henry - larger-than-life, strong, tyrannical, yet putty (initially) in the hands of women. I will feel cheated if it wins.

  3. Yes I too enjoyed this book and thought the writing style helped capture the mood of the moment and was readable. It would also stand being read again more slowly.

  4. Just fabulous! I loved Wolf Hall and think this is even better. Such confidence, such imagination, such wit, such Chutzpah! Hilary Mantel has recreated the historical novel, Philippa Gregory, eat your heart out!
